Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging
At University Cooperative School, we believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion work belongs to everyone. Through academic, co-curricular, and school-wide programming, we seek to center, support, and elevate the lived experiences of community members. We overlay this work with a deliberate commitment to social justice and the ultimate goal of true belonging for all.
DEIJB Statement
We value our differences. We are multi-racial and multi-ethnic. We come from mixed socioeconomic backgrounds. We are LGBTQ families. We are immigrants and the children of immigrants. Our families, teachers, and kids represent a diversity of histories and backgrounds.
We respect each other. The pedagogy of University Cooperative School is deeply rooted in the fostering of loving community and social emotional learning. We strive to build a safe, respectful, and joyful learning environment in which students collaborate and engage with a range of peers in meaningful ways.
We engage in discussion and learning about power, privilege, and injustice. Our community is committed to empowering students, parents, and teachers to take action in the world and be part of problem-solving.
We evolve. We are committed to self-improvement, and to our part in creating a more equitable world. We work to increase access for, and to better welcome and embrace families that have been historically marginalized and underserved. You are welcome here.
