Enrichment

When children are encouraged to try different things they develop a rich tapestry of skills and interests that shape their growth. Enrichment programs at University Cooperative School provide a well-rounded elementary education, rich with diverse opportunities, laying a strong foundation for children.

Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian cultural art form that combines martial arts, dance, and music. Our pre-k through fifth grade students embark on a lively exploration of movement, songs, Afro-Brazilian culture, and the Brazilian Portuguese language. Whether we travel to the Union Cultural Center in the International District or meet in our own “Mountain Room,” Capoeira class is all about studying the rhythm, musical instruments, maneuvers, and rich history of this cultural art form.

Cooking

At University Cooperative School, cooking is a recipe for learning! Students in pre-k through fifth grade embark on a culinary adventure learning basic cooking techniques and creating delicious and nutritious meals. Students make recipes with ingredients from our school garden during harvest season and try recipes from around the world. Cooking is a great way to witness science in action and practice important math skills like volume, area, fractions and ratios. Teachers and cooking program volunteers collaborate with families to accommodate specific dietary needs, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
