Dear
Families,
Let’s face it, children spend a large part of their day at
school. If school is not a joyful, nurturing, and engaging
place where children thrive, then—really—what is the
point?
I can tell you, both as the school’s operations manager
and as a parent who has had two children attend University
Cooperative School, that this is an environment in which
children truly thrive academically, socially, and
emotionally. And what’s more, children absolutely love
going to school here. This is a place where there is a
great deal of respect for and honoring of individuality, a
place where social and emotional learning and the creative
arts are given equal footing with academics. University
Co-op students graduate from our school with a strong
sense of self, a passion for learning, and compassion for
others. We feel that these are the greatest gifts to have
for the middle school years and beyond.
People often ask me what kind of students we look for at
University Co-op. We are primarily looking for children
whose families understand the benefits of a progressive,
hands on, multi-age approach to learning, who want to
participate in a cooperative school community, and who
believe, as we do, that childhood is a journey and not a
race. I encourage you to attend an open house, schedule a
school visit, and contact me with any questions that you
have about the school or the admissions process.
I look forward to meeting you!
